The pelvic floor musculature works as part of the core to regulate intraabdominal pressure. Chrissy has taken training with Herman & Wallace to provide pelvic floor evaluation and management. Many of the symptoms our patients present with (low back pain, diastasis rectus abdominis, neck/upper back pain, etc.), are symptoms of core dysfunction. Pelvic floor therapy looks different for everyone and Chrissy uses a multimodal approach to treatment that may include soft tissue work and therapeutic exercise.
Pelvic health therapy can be provided during pregnancy, in which an assessment and treatment is provided. This may include exercises to enhance pelvic floor awareness, birthing position options, exercises for postpartum recovery, manual therapy, and perineal preparation.
Postpartum care includes assessment and treatment for the following: diastasis recti, incontinence, scar healing (including cesarean scar), pelvic organ prolapse, and return to activities and exercise. The initial assessment is ideally done around 6 weeks postpartum, however, postpartum is forever.
